International Port & Terminal Technology Conference
October 13 - 15, 2009
Antwerp, Belgium
NMU was represented at the International Port & Terminal Technology conference in Antwerp, Belgium.
Following its European success over the last 6 years, the conference has established itself as a key industry event for industry experts and market leaders worldwide. The conference programme covered latest developments, issues, trends and technology affecting ports and terminals around the globe. An invaluable learning opportunity as well as an excellent platform for discussion, debate and networking was provided.

InWaterTec 2009 - Forum for systemic solutions, products and services
October 6 - 8, 2009
Kiel, Germany
NMU was represented at the InWaterTec 2009 in Kiel. The conference was hosted by the Maritime Cluster Management Schleswig-Holstein, German Lloyd and the German Association for Marine Technology.
The fifth InWaterTec focused on three subjects:
- S1 – Economic Dimension of Sustainable Marine Activities
- S2 – Marine Mineral Resources
- S3 – Underwater Installation

Maritime Transport: Scotland's economic growth opportunity

Edinburgh, Scotland
This major event organised by Mackay Hannah, and supported by the NMU lead partner Transport Research Institute (TRI), was held in Edinburgh on Monday 5th October 2009.
The conference:

Focused on Scotland's key maritime infrastructure developments included in the Scottish Government's National Planning Framework
-
Further explored how these specific developments fit into evolving policy (EU and national)
-
Considered possible implementation and financing options together with supporting research and development projects at domestic and transnational levels.
The conference was structured around four plenary sessions allowing for plenty of time for questions and discussion and included presentations from Scottish Government (Keynote Speaker: Stewart Stevenson MSP, Minister for Transport, Infrastructure & Climate Change) as well as key players in maritime transport and the freight industry in Scotland. It also included an input from speakers and delegates from the EU.

Coastlink Annual Conference 2009
September 24 - 25, 2009
Dunkerque, France
The “Coastlink Annual Conference 2009” was hosted by the Port of Dunkerque. It focused on transport links between the North of Europe and the Mediterranean. For the first time the potential market for the reefer container in European supply chain systems was examined in depth.
Other issues discussed included French port reform, collaboration between shippers to encourage more shortsea/multimodal services and the development of new shortsea and rail services between North Europe and the Mediterranean.
