The annual conference of the IAMU, dealing with “Green Ships, Eco Shipping and Education & Training”, was held in Gdynia (Poland) in June 2011. Gdynia Maritime University organized an attractive programme which offered enough space for networking and interesting discussions with researchers from all over the world.
NMU project members Thomas Pawlik and Susanne Neumann from Bremen University of Applied Sciences represented NMU. They took the opportunity to spread NMU's objectives and deliverables among the expert audience and got new ideas and valuable insights by various conversations. Also, they could establish good contacts to European maritime universities interested in NMU's travelling lecturer concept. Thomas Pawlik is conviced “that an exchange of ideas can be very valuable for both – the NMU and IAMU network.” So he gave a presentation about academic maritime education the participants of IAMU’s annual conference listened to with great interest.
IAMU was founded by seven universities representing the five continents of the world (Representative Universities) in November 1999 with a shared recognition of significance of maritime education and training in the rapid globalization of the international shipping arena. Since then, IAMU has significantly expanded its membership. Now, 52 institutions of the world’s maritime education and training universities/faculties are members of this international network.
