NMU network promotion in Brazil – part two
Written by Gesine Stück | Wednesday, 03 August 2011 |
Because of the fast economic growth and corresponding development of the maritime industry in Brazil, there is a need to establish in the country a knowledge-based network that will ensure professional competence of people employed in the maritime cluster.
Cooperation with NMU can be possible taking into account as well that there are also shipping companies in the North Sea Region which have a significant commercial interest in the maritime industry in Brazil or in South America in general.
In this regard, Enrico Lobrigo from the NMU network visited maritime organisations in Brazil in July 2011. Furthermore he took part at the 10th Brazil Offshore Conference held in the oil town of Macae on 14th to 17th June 2011. Enrico Lobrigo promoted NMU through active participation in plenary sessions and networking during intermissions.
In particular, the NMU network member contacted the following organisations for updates:
- SYNDARMA – Sindicato Nacional das Empresas de Navegação Marítima (Union of Brazilian Shipowners)
- Marinha do Brazil Diretoria de Portos e Costas (Brazilian Navy Directorate of Ports and Coasts)
- CIAGA – Centro de Instrução Almirante Graça Aranha (Maritime College)
- FEMAR – Fundação de Estudos do Mar (Maritime Studies Foundation)
- Companhia de Navegação Norsul
“We are delighted on the successful establishment of new contacts to companies from maritime industry and the fruitful discussion of various topics relevant for the module development with already existing contacts” says Kevin Cullinane, project leader of the NMU network.
